Can't believe the hubby was concerned. He said, what if they learn Chinese and we don't? I said, well, they'll talk to each other.
Poor guy. I know all the theme songs to PBS, nick, and disney series. He's the only one who might not learn chinese. Well, someone's gotta go to work.

Those are the 3 Chinese calligraphy books I just ordered. Supposedly they're just an introduction to simplified Chinese writing so your eyes can adjust to whole word symbols from our phonetic writing. It's a start. They're in the mail. Eagerly waiting. :DD (wish that emoticon showed teeth to show how big I'm grinning.)

If you're looking for "dabbling in Mandarin" books, you might try Huy Voun Lee's books. (At the Beach, In the Snow, In the Leaves, 1 2 3 Go)

FWIW, DD7 has lived in a bilingual Mandarin / English home her entire life, and her knowledge of spoken Mandarin is limited to good morning / good night / goodbye / love you / thank you. She doesn't read / write at all.
