Hi, I am new to this forum  , which I found during a search on the web, seems that there are a lot of good information being shared!
My son in grade 5 was recommended by his school to take the special talent search SCAT test in Hong Kong that took place end of October. This is new to us and we did not know what to expect, just have a vague knowledge that this test is supposed to find out if the kid is �gifted� in maths and verbal. While we know our son is bright we never really thought that he is �gifted� so we let him do the test out of curiosity. I just saw that his results are posted in the MyCTY website:
Verb-Raw Verb-Scaled Verb-Percentile
36 452 63.00
Quant-Raw Quant-Scaled Quant-Percentile
39 479 88.00
Now that we have the results, I am a bit puzzled as:
1. How should I feel about these scores?  there isn't a "pass score" so I am not sure is my son considered gifted? Since it says he is awarded the "Certificate of Participation", it doesn�t sound very encouraging and that the percentile is not especially high, so does it mean he is bright, but not that bright, if you see what I mean. I do find out from the CTY website that there is a cut off mark for the summer school, so do we treat this cut-off mark as a kind of �confirmation� of whether the kid is considered �gifted� or �talented� in that particular area?
2. I am a bit surprised by the results as he is always very advance in English at school, more so than Maths, he likes to read English fictions a lot, so I am surprised that his verbal score is a lot lower than the Maths one. I am thinking maybe it is because English is after all a second language for us and so while his English is very advanced compared to his fellow Hong Kong students, he is not that advance compared with US students.
Please feel free to let me have your comments especially on #1. Thank you in advance for any input from experienced parents.

Thanks LittleCherub and Dottie for your warm welcome and the detailed explanations. I knew I would get great help here! I will go into the websites to take a look and read the graphs and post again any questions I may have. BTW, my son is 10 years old.
