I am very interested in having my dd10 take the Explore test this year as a tool to help get her work that is appropriately challenging at her current Montessori school and also as we anticipate a move in 18 months to get her the correct placement and possible grade acceleration at the new (most likely public) school. She is in a multi-age (4th-6th)classroom so it could be argued that she is a 5th grader, and her birthday is early fall which in some states would be the cut-off for 5th grade. Any advice?

My fall birthday kid is registered for the Explore as a 4th grader! I definitely wouldn't bump up a grade either.

    We registered through NUMATS

Another vote for not skipping a kid who can be accommodated without the skip.

So we signed up for the Duke TIP, and on the TIP website it says only 5th and 6th graders should take it (but I guess that is if you want the scores used for Duke). Thanks for the C-MITES info--that is prob. the route we will take--I am really just trying to get some indication of where her abilities lie without spending $1500, and I don't want to deprive her of the opportunity for awards in the future if possible.

My first choice would be to accomodate her without the skip, but I imagine situations where she would need it. We have no idea where we will be moving to, but I am advocating for a specific town in the Philly suburbs where I know she would be accomodated appropriately.

    Thanks for the feedback!

There is also Northwestern Talent Search. http://www.ctd.northwestern.edu/

They offer Explore as young as 3rd grade.

I was looking at the links provided by PPs and noticed for the first time that there are no Explore sites in my state. frown The closest appears to be about 1.5 to 2 hours away. Is it worth it to go that far? DS8 is in 3rd this year, and I'm wondering if I should consider registering through CMITES.

DS took SCAT last year, but that seems rather limited in scope.
