After a year of not being challenged enough at school, I finally decided to have DD7 given an IQ test. We are having someone with gifted experience do the testing. I was given a sneak peak at her IOWA test and she did better than her DYS brother at the same age. I know this only show grade level but it's encouraging that I should do this. I would like to see her get into DYS too. I think that would be great for self esteem. She is actual very social and open to meeting new people so I'm not too worried. I'm sure the waiting will be hard but they said they can have results with in a few days.

It feels like I have come a long way in this situation with understanding thanks to lots of support here. I feel lucky now while 6 months ago I was desperate for help.

    Yippee OTG mom!!!

I love it when the little sisters - who are often so sunny and well behaved that that 'couldn't' be that gifted - do get tested and are found to be very similar LOG to their more 'unusual-looking' big brothers!

Could it be because I grew up as the older sister of a tested and identified, and accommodated little brother? I think yes!

It makes me wonder how many little girls are missed entirely because they are only children!

Of course there are probably boys with high EQ who are missed for the same reason.

Dottie has often said: 'Test one, test them all!' I know it's expensive, but if at all possible, I agree!

    Love and More Love,
    Grinity

When I talked about testing for DD with our principal, (who has gifted experience), she said, "it's not like she is doing calculus". I immediately thought no one has given her the opportunity to do calculus and this lady is never going to understand. I just smiled.

This testing gave even more validation that she really needs to go to the gifted school.
