You have described both of my DC. We don't know the LOG of DD4 (if GT at all), but it's THIS behavior (and over-reactions to the littlest of things just to get the attention) that overwhelm me most of all.
I find that giving each of my DC a "chore" chart, that includes behavior helps... though DS, when younger, found a way to manipulate it to get more "prizes" (at the time it was stickers... now it's allowance, but he's not as manipulative to get more money - yet). Focusing on the positive, and adding the fact that both want to please us, does help to limit some of the "bad" incidents due to seeking attention.
