At my son's (6y 10m) last conference (which the gifted teacher attended), it was decided that ds would get tested for the ULE (gifted) program in April.(he's actually been attending the program since his conference). So last week, I e-mailed the teachers to see when that would happen - he sent home paperwork, which I returned on Wednesday. Today, I asked ds how school was, he replied with the usual, and as an afterthought, told me that Mr. K had taken him for some testing. Apparently, he'll be continuing tomorrow (from what I can gather, it took between 1 - 1 1/2 hours today). I asked him how it was, he said there were riddles, and he had to look at sets of about 6 pictures and say which one fitted the word that Mr K said. That's as much as I could get out of him smile I have no idea exactly what tests they use, apart from there's an IQ test and an achievement test. He said some of them were really hard. I really wasn't expecting the testing to be done so quick - and now I'm getting all nervous, though why, I don't know LOL

I did some checking and think the tests are the KBIT2 and KTEA reading and math. Don't know much about them - but know a little more than I did a few hours ago smile

Good Luck to your DS (and you)!!! I was never informed of the day DS6 started his testing either... I found out 3 days later!

Well - ds finished the testing on Monday, and it seems he did well. All I have seen so far is the paper that his teacher sent home for us to sign - it looks like it will be part of his school record - basically, it says that he qualifies for the ULE (gifted) program. I presume I'll get something else from them with more info on ? All I know is the following -

    Ability Test - KBIT2
    Subscore - Non verbal 99%ile
    Subscore - Composite - 99%ile

    Achievement Test KTEA
    Subscore - Reading - 99%ile
    Subscore - Math - 99%ile

He got 25 points for each subscore - so a total of 100 - to qualify for the ULE program, he needed 75 points. When I find out more, I'll head to the Identification and testing forum for more indepth help ! smile

If for some reason they don't intend to give you the scoring details, I would try at a minimum to get a scaled score number for each of those areas, to see if your child is at 133, 160 or somewhere happily in between. .

Thanks, Dottie - I am really clueless when it comes to all this ! I have an e-mail into his teacher to see if I can find out more. She e-mailed me last night, she was very excited about his scores, and has already spoken to the Principal to make sure he is aware smile I read a previous thread of yours where you explained standard deviations - I presume this is what comes into play with the 133+ score ?? Thanks for your help - what would we do without you ?? smile

I e-mailed the gifted teacher, and he said he mailed the scores out to us on Tuesday - so now I have to be patient (!!) and hopefully mail will be waiting for me when I get home tonight !! I'll post the scores on the Identification/Testing forum smile
