    Current Grade Placement
    Number Sense: Integers 0.84 96 % ( 99 / 103 )
    Number Sense: Decimals and Fractions 0.94 100 % ( 6 / 6 )
    Geometry 1.00 92 % ( 46 / 50 )
    Logic and Reasoning 0.97 87 % ( 99 / 113 )
    Measurement 0.91 83 % ( 45 / 54 )
    Data/Statistics/Probability 1.00 92 % ( 12 / 13 )

I signed up for EPGY Open Enrollment and my 2nd grader did some sessions. His "current grade placement" is shown above. What do the numbers mean? Does the 0.84 for Number Sense: Integers mean that he answered the questions at level somewhere between a kindergartener and 1st-grader? (In reality his 4yo little brother answered many of the questions, because they were below the older one's level.)

That is the level of the current questions. 0.84 means 84% through K.

It would be better if your older child did the sessions as it will progress quicker to where he is at that way. Each time you get some wrong it gives more questions at a later point than if you got them all right.

I would say it took my child about 6 sessions to get through all of the K stuff. It took him probably about 13 sessions to get through the 1st grade stuff.

My question would be why didn't it start your child at a higher level to start with? It should have started him at 2nd grade or at least part way through 1st grade if you put he was in 2nd now. My son is 5 and in K so it started him at K lvl, you could always ask the person in charge to put him at a more appropriate level I think. I didn't bother because I figured it gave my son time to learn how EPGY worked.

Thanks for your reply. I paid only a small amount to register my son through May 31. I may enroll both boys starting June 1 and then have each work at the appropriate level.

    Hello Bostonian.
The decimals mean how much he completed of that topic in percentage. For example, in integers, if it says 0.84, It means he has completed 84% of the topic of Integers. It doesn't mean he is scoring 84 percent. He got 83 percent in measurement, which surprised me, because you said the course was easy for him. Then you said his younger bro was doing some of it for him. First of all, how is he gonna learn if his younger bro is doing it, and second of all, why don't you just sign your younger one up for epgy too, even though it costs so much, I mean it looks like he really wants to do it... Anyway, my son did this, but the lessons were confusing and didn't offer much insight on the topic. He was really only doing the course for credit, so he could go to a higher class, more at his level. Even though the teaching was bad, he had no problem with it, as he had learned all the topics before.
    Sorry for the long reply.
    Sincerely,
    HelperMom

I know this is an old thread, but new viewers may be looking for EPGY grade placement guidance. I recommend asking your SSA to set up a placement test. The test worked really well for my DD whose initial grade placement was far too easy for her. Other options include having your SSA switch your child from reinforcement to gifted curriculum which will move more quickly with less instruction and more difficult exercises. I have a handout on EPGY settings for new members of my EPGY Open Enrollment learning group. PM me for a copy. BTW you don't have to be in my learning group to get a copy.
