How does one find a psychologist who gives the individually administered IQ and achievement tests used to qualify for the Young Scholars program? I live near Boston.

I always recommend starting on Hoagies' Page, since the testers there have been recommended by parents of gifted kids. Testers cannot self-recommend.

Note that this skips some very useful info about testing that is at the top of the page. I'd suggest that you read that, too.

If you (or anyone) find other testers who are good with gifted kids but who are not on this list, please contact Carolyn K. at Hoagies and add them. It helps us all if this list is as complete as possible. Thanks!

I wish that Colorado had someone on the list other than the GDC frown. Not that they are bad, but their prices run about $1600 now from what I understand and there are certainly assessors who have different approaches than they do. Options are good!

Does Davidson do any recommending of psychs who have tested kids who have applied to DYS?

No, I had asked Davidson that question before, and they cannot recommend any psychs. If you still can't find one that is within your price range, I suggest you look into the local university, see if they have a gifted research program. I find them to be more experienced with G/T testings and more affordable.

I can recommend a tester in Denver if you need one. We used GDC in the past for dd and more recently a new tester for all three older kids. She was recommended by multiple friends. She and her colleagues (I think one of them was formerly with GDC many years ago) test for local gifted schools.

Which leads me to another thought - many gifted schools have a list of testers they recommend to their applicants. That info is often available on-line, on a school's website, under admissions info. So OP, I'd check the websites of local gifted schools in Boston to see if any of them list psychologists for testing.
