Hi Theresa, those are really great scores for a 4th grader. It is absolutely OK for non-Davidson people to post here, it is an open forum. Speaking of, your ds's scores do qualify him for DYS. You still would need more information to apply (IQ test or portfolio), but I thought you'd like to know.

Very cool that he has his sister to talk biology with.

Thanks for the info about DYS. We haven't planned on getting IQ testing, although I guess we could. We have four kids and only the oldest was tested, due to other issues (she came out PG). The thing is, mostly, my ds seems like any other kid, and on top of that, he has an expressive language and speech production issue (apraxia). When I'm at school volunteering, honestly, the other kids seem pretty slow, but it's not like ds is coming up to me and saying, 'hey look mom, I just created a new chemical compound.' When we talk to him about stuff, he seems to get it very quickly, but he doesn't seem "out there" like I expect really gifted kids to seem (although neither does dd, and she is supposedly PG :)).

And he does like talking Biology. His test scores guilted me into buying a Biology kit to do a project for the school science/special interest fair (any display is okay, doesn't have to really be science fair material). With dd17's senior year, the other kids are getting a lot less attention. frown

    Thanks for the welcome!
    Theresa

My goodness Dottie--you are an amazing wealth of information! So now I'm curious about the other subtests....Do you know how many correct answers would lead to a 17 in science or to a 19 in english? My interpretation of what she knows/is able to do is, I think, a little bit different depending on whether she is getting answers wrong, or if her score mostly reflects her speed. Obviously I have no way of knowing whether she would have correctly answered questions she never even got to read, but if what she did do for science/english was accurate that's a little different than not finishing the subtests AND not knowing the ones she got to. KWIM? Not sure what we're going to do about the time issue with her--it seems like everything takes her 30x longer than it needs to take (Seriously. This is kid who will forget that she's on the way out the door--already late--and will sit down with a book or a drawing pad somewhere on her way to fetch her coat eek ).

To everyone else who's been posting: congrats on all the amazing scores. It's a good perspective check for me to see what "WOW!" can really look like wink (we're more in the wow school of GT than the WOW school of GT smile ). You all have some pretty amazing kiddos!

Empty mailbox again. I called Duke TIP this morning and they said that results were "trickling in." Am I the only one? Is anyone else still waiting?
