My eight year old son just got tested in Mexico with the WISC IV in Spanish. The psychologist who applied the test and made the assessment said that she and another fellow psychologist translated and adapted the test to spanish.
    Here are his scores:

    block design 15
    similarities 19
    digit span 19
    picture concepts 14
    coding 16
    vocab 9
    letter-numb. sequ. 15
    matrix reseasoning 14
    comprehension 19
    symbol 13

He also had 5 subtests with scores as follows:
    Incomplete figures 9
    Registers 12
    Information 19
    Arithmetic 19
    Incomplete words-clues 17

What I dont understand is the complete scores, I asked my psychologist and she said they were right.
    Here they are:

Verbal Comprehension 83 (she added the test and the subtest scores in this composite, which I think was not ok.

    Perceptual Reasoning 43

    Working memory 34

    Process speed 26

    In calculating FSIQ

Verbal Comprehension = 155 in the 95% percentile with confidence interval of 116-129 That doesnt make sense to me, if its 155 should be in the 99th percentile, so I think this score is wrong but she said the program calculated it and it should be right.

Perceptual Reasoning 127 in the 96th percentile with a confidence interval of 117-132

Working memory 141 in the 99th percentile with a confidence interval of 130-145

And Process speed 126 in the 96th percentile with a confidence interval of 114-132

FISQ 140 in the 99th percentile with a confidence interval of 130-140

Shoul I trust this test scores?
    What do you think.

    Thanks for your help.

Thank you so much Dottie for your information.
I dont know if the 9 is a mistake or is the actual score but thats the number they gave me.

But I dont understand, in the strengths and weakness analysis they said vocabulary is a Strength while picture concepts is a weakness. And for me that doesnt relates with the scores

    Let me show you:
    block design 15 Strength
    similarities 19 Weakness
    digit span 19 Weakness
    picture concepts 14 Weakness
    coding 16 Strength
    vocab 9 Strength
    letter-numb. sequ. 15 Strength
    matrix reseasoning 14 Strength
    comprehension 19 Weakness
    symbol 13 Weakness

I mean how should it be rigth to have 19 in comprehension and that be a weakness?

Sorry for so much information but I do really appreciate your kindly help with this.

The mean of the entire test was 153/10 = 15.3
They calculated the mean for VCI as 83/3 = 27.333 (weird right)?
    And PRI mean as = 43/3 = 14.33

    Weakness/strength analysis:
    Scores less mean
(She said this are another scores but I dont understand why they compare this scores to the mean obtained with another scores)

    Block design 22 - 14.33 = 7.67 Strength

    Similarities 17 - 27.66 = -10.67 Weakness

    Digit span 15 - 15.3 = -0.30 Weakness

    Picture concepts 5 - 14.33 = -9.33 Weakness

    Coding 35 - 15.3 = 19.7 Strength

    Vocab 29 - 27.66 = 1.33 Strength

    Letter-numb. sequ. 16-15.3 = 0.7 Strength

    Matrix reseasoning 15-14.33 = 0.67 Strength

    Comprehension 20-27.66 = -7.67 Weakness

    symbol 34-15.3 = 18.7 Strength

Do you think I use this results as a valid test to show the school? Should I have him retested?

    Regards,
    Eva

Thank you so much Dottie =)

Saddly I dont think I cant get a retype of the report because the psychologist said it was all right and that I was the first person ever to question it frown

So I dont think I can show this assessment to the school frown

And I am not really sure if with all that mistakes the FSIQ is a reliable score although is a very good score =)

Again thank you so much for your help.

    He is really gifted =)
I thought he was around the 150 to 160. I was surprised to see the 140 but I thought it was a nice score.

I didnt know about the test and I wanted to know what all those numbers meant so I search everything I could about the WISC IV and then I found that a difference beyond 23 points between scores made the FSIQ noninterpretable.

And the difference between his 155 in the VCI and the 126 PSI was more than 23 points, thats when I decided to verify the data.

With all the information you gave I feel more confident to send her a mail to tell her again about my doubts.

    Thank you so much Dottie,

I saw the raw score for vocabulary, is 24. Do this relates to the 9 in the scaled score?

At school they know he is gifted, (it shows =) ), but I wanted a number to show them that he is profoundly gifted and he needed special accommodations. Although the number doesnt mean profoundly gifted is a high score and maybe it would help.

I emailed the psychologist and tell her the mistakes I saw with her report (it was on Excel). And told her to send me again the report with the right numbers.

I hope she accepts the mistakes and send me the right report.

Should I be worried about the spread between similarities and vocabulary? Does it means a learning problem?

    Thank you!

I forgot to add, that I dont think he has a learning problem, he is very fluent when he speaks. He talks like an adult =)

The psychologist said that I cannot prove that her assessment of the test is wrong. So I cannot have a reprint. frown
It is very frustrating because with all that mistakes I cannot be sure that the score is right.

Anyone has the tables to convert scores? Or can I send the scores to someone who could help validating the scores?

I know, its crazy to ask, but perhaps someone knows where to find this information.

    Thank you for your help.
