DD is registered to take EXPLORE on the 20th. I haven't received her admission ticket yet. If you are registered for the same date, have you gotten yours?

If your DC tested in January, how far ahead did you get the ticket?

    TIA,
    Shannon

Dd#2 is taking the Explore at the end of this month, too. I can't remember the exact date, but somewhere around the 20th sounds right wink! She just got her ticket in the mail today.

I think we got our packet just a couple of weeks ahead. I wouldn't think it is late yet.

My kids took the Explore in January. We got the packets with the admission tickets 10-11 days before the test. They also include a practice test, but you can also find that online at the ACT web site.

    Thanks everyone!

I don't have any expectation that she'll be DYS material after EXPLORE (she was "only" 130 composite on OLSAT - not that I think the OLSAT is definitive for LOG) but I'm excited to see what she does with an above level test.

I hear people talk about the Explore test. What age is it for? How do you sign up to take it? I have gathered that is an achievement test and can be used to apply for DYS, is that right?

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, but I keep seeing threads about this test and want to know more.

    No worries! smile

Explore is for 8th graders normally, but it is offered through some of the regional talent searches for kids in grades 3-6 as above-level achievement testing. It is one of the testing options for DYS, yes.

Check here for a link to your state's talent search: http://www.davidsongifted.org/db/Articles_id_10260.aspx There you can see more about the testing offered and can register if you like. The Explore is offered just a couple of times in Jan. and Feb., so if you're interested, you'd need to get on it NOW! I think you'd probably have to pay a late fee to take it this year.

Not all regions offer all tests. Please correct me if I'm wrong, someone, but I'm pretty sure you can travel to another region to take the test if you want to. But it's kind of a pain to do if it's not just across the border from you.

Oh, and the subjects on the Explore are English (grammar-type stuff), Reading, Math and Science. It is a timed test: 30 minutes per section, with 28-40 questions per section.

    Oooh, a timed test. Scary!

    thanks Kriston.

I'm trying to decide if it makes sense to test DD9 in Feb. We were planning to wait and do it through Duke's TIP next year. Aside from DYS, what other resources could we leverage if we test her sooner? How often can you test with Explore? Can we do it annually?
