Belle, if you don't already have a big stash of technic LEGOs, I highly suggest LEGO Education's Education Resource Kit. It was a better buy when the prices were cheaper but it's still a great add-on for the NXT2.0. Plus, if you purchase any of the NXT books and I warn you, most NXT books are written for NXT1.0, then the add-on kit will allow you to build those as well. Now if you already know all this lol - feel free to ignore. 8-)

We have 2 NXT1.0 kits, one for each boy, and I'd love to have a kit of my own.

Just an update. I purchased The Mayan Adventure book to compliment my son's NXT 2.0. He ran in to a problem early on. He did not have some of the pieces listed. I google the author and found an email address for him. He emailed me back within a few hours.

The Mayan Adventure was written in 2006 and is to be used with NXT 1.0. His second book, The King's Treasure, is written to be used with NXT 2.0.

I hope this can help someone.

The lego website has options for purchasing individual pieces, if that is what you need az1...gears, etc.
