That is what worked for DS. He was able to maintain his age mates and pursue his passion for sport while at the same time be accelerated 3 years in maths and 1 in science.

Is it possible you are still struggling with some denial and underestimating your son? It has been very hard for me to comprehend what work my DD10 is actually capable of doing, until I let her do it. We started at home with math and science and I have tried to let her run with those subjects since they go hand in hand. It's humbling to watch them race through years of material is such short time spans, and understand every word.

There are days she will say something about her work load compared to her sisters, who granted are in 1st/2nd. If mention that she could always go back to grade level classes she cringes and walks away to get back to whatever work she was doing. She has chosen to pursue some 8th/9th grade classes next year which I find very scary but they are her choice, she wants to work at this level, and she has proven she can do it. She is still 10 and plenty silly. I don't want to take any of that childhood away, and yes it is a balance.

You know your child and what would be best for him, just make sure you are making decisions based on his needs. In the past I have let my fears for the future get in the way. We can only change today and hope for tomorrow. smile

I'm not totally sure what his needs are. I have some confusion and denial. He took the Explore on Saturday. I knew my 3rd grader qualified and was ok, but then again this is a test for 8th Graders and I was telling him don't worry if it's hard, it's ok not to know it all. My only background in education is my kids. I bearly got to and tru college.
