Hi. I'm new to the group and very glad I found it. My DS5 started Kindergarten at the public elementary school last fall. We have known for quite some time that he is a bright child because we have spent years in occupational therapy and had a few psychological evaluations. The pediatrician thought maybe he had Aspergers but ASD has been ruled out as his social skills are now on par with his peers. (yay!) Now we think it was just "uneven development", as the psychologist said. He was in OT for sensory integration and modulation control, and later he was in a social skills group, but we ended that when he was four.
We just got the results of the WPPSI-III that was administered in Dec. Scores are
Verbal 131
Performance 142
Processing Speed 131
Full Scale 139
He has some auditory processing issues. The psychologist told us he is just a visual guy all the way.
Last year he was administered some of the Woodcock Johnson III and his Brief Achievement was 145.
His teacher, who is fantastic, indicated that math is really his strong suit and recommended I look for something on-line to keep him challenged and motivated. I saw the EPGY program and had some questions.
Will they accept these scores to qualify for the program?
Is the program appropriate for a kid with his skills?
If he is required to take the on-line qualifying test, how long is it? I would need to give him an idea of how long he would need to work at it.
I think this is something he would LOVE to do, but don't want to invest in this kind of money unless it really is worth it. Once kids get started do they tend to stick with it?
Do most school districts accept qualifying transcripts for advancing in math?
