Hi -- I'm new here and I hope someone can help. My DS was given the WJ III tests ( I think he was only given 3 tests) and based on his scores (over 99%) the psychologist recommended an accelerated online math class course among other things. Has anyone here had a child take one of these courses and if so what was yout experience? I'm concerned that it may be too much for a first grader.

Does anyone know what the average scores on these test are?

I believe the WJ III percentile reporting is a CRT reporting. Which means it has a cut-score of what is considered "average". Only I don't know what that cut off is and even if they would release that to us mere mortals. I think you are safe to assume that 99% is fantastic!

You may try EPGY. My DS6 scored 98 percentile and started it 2 months ago. DS^ started out at the beginning on level K since that was how my particular sign up agreement worked. DS6 completed level K in one day. DS6 does 20 minutes about 3 times a week and has progressed to level 2. Loves it and I suspect we'll get through level 4 by the end of the year. Not bad for a 6 year old.

This was not done in the school, we had private testing done because everytime I asked "what did you learn today?" he said" nothing." His teacher had wonderful things to say about him so I didn't understand why he was saying this. Hence testing.

Only 3 WJ3 tests were administered and all were above 99%ile but math was the only online course reccomended. The broad math score was 146 so I guess that's good.

He does love math. During the tests he told the psych "I'm a numbers guy!"
I'm hoping the school will have some additional testing as they get older. They don't do GT testing until 2nd grade.
Mommabear -- do you have any insight into EPGY vs. CTY?

Just getting back online after the holidays. Mine's been doing EPGY and loves it most days. Don't know about the other.

CTY uses EPGY at the lower levels. Then they switch to Thinkwell Math in the higher levels. We do have an EPGY Open Enrollment group on the board but there are a few differences between the two programs. If you search my posts, click on my name and search EPGY you will find them. HTH.
