Just go into it knowing that a school that make the cut off at 127 is going to have the majority of it's students between 127 and 134, which is still a long long way away from what would seem normal to your son, but still a lot closer than where he is now. There may be a teacher there is open minded and that will make all the difference. It seems so simple to find out here the child is, and then met their needs, but in reality, it is difficult, and takes trial and error. Grinity Do you Think 140 IQ is far from this? (I was not sure if you had his score.) His only bigger DYS IQ score was 146 GIA. YUP, every 15 points is a standard deviation. That's a big difference in frequency.

They seem open to accellorating kids thru work as quick as needed filling in the wholes. Maybe it would be worth it just getting him to where he needs to be with the wholes filled in even if it was for a year. great idea! We did this to get the single skip.

Two years ago, I enrolled DS in a public charter school that was just formed for a couple years. It advertised itself as using GATE curriculum to teach kids, but anyone could apply. It is a district charter school (as opposed to the state charter school). The district was hostile to that charter school and it was folded a year later. The next year, some of the teachers formed a school, so we went with them. I'm sorry that this didn't go well, but it does illustrate that idea that if the school folds, something wonderful might grow out of the ashes, such as a new mentor relationship, or a whole new school. If the first teacher had been a good fit, then by the second year the school might have gotten it's act together, and been a viable option. No gaurentees, but life is good that way sometimes. Grinity

I would consider the school even with the knowledge this might be a solution for a year or two. It would give your children an opportunity form friendships with GT kids that would last beyond the school. Also, your children could advance and show proficiency in several subjects that would hopefully help with math placement once they would return to their former school.
Not sure if you are in Ohio, but this schools like the one I am considering for DS4 for Kindergarten. Ohio schools are supposed to start mandatory full day Kindergarten, but our school has requested a waiver. DS would go from 4 hour pre-k to 2.5hr kindy and I would rather enroll him in a all day charter gifted school (provided that he tests similar to DD).

Mommy2myEm -- this is a bit of a sidetrack, but according to an official I talked to on Tuesday, Ohio is moving to require schools to offer full time K. They will not require children to attend full time K.

They will not require children to attend full time K. Our school has been a bit secretive about it since they now offer all day with a $4000 fee. Since our levy was voted down, they may ask for a waiver due to lack of funds. I know districts that are asking for more time to implement it for financial reasons.
