    Some background:

DS took the WIPPSI in 2006 before entering Kindergarten, FSIQ 150(>99.9 percentile). He is now 8, has been attending a private gifted school all along (grades K-3). He's bored. He doesn't want to go to school anymore. He has never found anything a challenge except work that is not clearly right/wrong answers(like giving his opinion and doing unstructured creative writing). He's a math/science/computers kid. He is a perfectionist. I had him take the WISC-IV last week with a psychologist, it was the happiest I've seen DS in a while. He is eager to take the achievement test I have scheduled for next month. (Woodcock Johnson)

I don't know if i should pursue the DYS program or if he would qualify for the Davidson Institute. We are considering relocating to find a school that can meet his needs and offers a challenging & interesting curriculum.

here are the scores I got back yesterday:
    VCI - 152 - >99.9 percentile
    PRI - 145 - 99.9 percentile
    WMI - 116 - 86.0 percentile
    PSI - 126 - 96.0 percentile
    FSIQ - 147 - 99.9
    GAI - 159

    SImilarities - 18
    Vocabulary - 19
    Comprehension - 19

    Block Design - 19
    Picture Concepts - 15
    Matrix Reasoning - 18

    Digit Span - 12
    Letter-Number Sequencing - 14

    Coding - 14
    Symbol Search - 15

I have 7 pages of report here! I was hoping this would give us some insight into where we should go next year or what kind of program to look for. Thanks in advance for any input smile

Ah yes, do apply for DYS! WOW on those scores! And great that it backs up the WIPPSI. And when you get the achievement scores, please post those for my own curiosity!

thank you both for the feedback and thanks for the welcome, Dottie smile

We are researching the Davidson Academy, doing testing (woodcock johnson) on Dec.5 and considering going to the January open house. Meanwhile I will start the application process for DYS and try to figure out what our options here are. NY to NV is a huge move but we don't have anything really keeping us here. We'd been looking for schools on the east coast until now.

    Those are phenomenal scores!

If nothing is holding you back form moving, I would suggest that you look at the DA. I would be there in a heartbeat if we could ever bring ourselves to leave New England.

Aside from the tremendous relief of having the school able and willing to oversee education for these unusual students, the social benefits really impress me.

I heard the same thing at the last gathering. You may need to wait for the 2011/2012 school year.

Congratulations on the wonderful scores. Definitely apply to DYS. Visiting DA now may be a good idea regardless of the age.

thanks for the replies. I will check out the other boards too. I thought the student only had to have finished 5th grade curriculum to be ready academically if they had qualifying test scores. I will have to look into that. I could surely use a year to prepare and think about a giant move like that.

Honestly, I hate rushing to be prepared for next fall and checking out flights to visit in january is not so encouraging. The flights are $$$ from NY to Reno. If he is too young to go in the fall I can wait and shop for better flight prices!

So, can anyone tell me about the Woodcock Johnson acheivement test? It tests what they actually know, right? School material?

    Hi JoAnna -
I was reading through the back treads to see how things have been developing.

Did you move to go to your current school?

    Are you considering DA?

    Did you apply to DYS?

    Smiles,
    Grinity

he is in DYS, we applied to DA and were invited to come out there but all our family is in NY and FL so we got cold feet, also my non-DYS DD7 needs "regular" gifted school. didn't look like great option out there for her.

They are both at a public gr 2-12 gifted public school in FL. We moved here from NY and are now considering our option, figuring out a plan for next year. Of course DD is thrilled and having excelling, DS is socially and academically unhappy. sigh
