Does anybody have this in their state? Is anybody using it? If so how's it working?

We are using it. Great for gifted placement and so far it is going well. Love the kids we have met so far. It is public school and all the hoops that go with that-downside. Feel free to pm me if you need any specifics.

Ok thanks. Our state is voting on it right now. I'm thinking about emailing my board member but wasn't sure if it would be good for a gifted kid or not.

Can they do whatever grade level they are at?

We've looked at the online private school, because there isn't a location in our state. DH called and spoke with someone and he was impressed with what they said. It seemed like a good fit for gifted kids based on what he was told. We haven't ruled it out yet, so I'll be interested to see what others think (if there are other opinions).

I just did an online session and it looks really good. I went to their gifted page and they even talk about 2E students. The school system here doesn't even seem to know that they exist smile

My son is 2E or 10E some days. Hehehehe He can work as fast or as little as he wants/can. Some subjects he flies thru like math and others we take much slower-LA. He was full grade-skipped and placed into the 3rd grade GT program. I was told that is the equivalent of the regular 3rd-4th grade PS classroom. They have been AWESOME accomodating his 2E issues allowing me to tweak here and there. Like I said the downside is the PS hoops. He has to do X work for state standards, etc. We compact a lot as there is still quite a bit of repetition and redundant work. We get together with a group of other CA kids for playdates, science days, art days and field trips. It is amazing to see the 'lack of social skills' he was labeled with in PS just disappear. Oh, our 2E issues are writing and he has been found to have tracking and convergence insufficiency which make reading/writing a ton of work. Like I said they have been awesome working with me on that. HTH

Thanks hkc...I really hope that our state gets it. If we do they're only taking 500 kids the first year but it's worth a try.

You say you can compact. Is there anything like a pre-test to "test" out of doing certain work?

Yes there are pre-tests and chapter tests, etc. You are still required to do the work though per state requirements as with any public school.
