crazy I guess not. I got an email from the school asking if my DD would like to stay for math on Thursdays. Regular old 5th grade math, they have no other option. I wrote back and kindly declined. She is doing EPGY and reviewing with our local seventh grade math in prep for pre-algebra. I'm sure the principal was just trying to be nice and make things easier for a pick up schedule but this is the reason she isn't taking anything but ELA in school. Just when I thought they understood...Thanks for letting me vent!

((hugs)) Melissa - sounds like it is going to take a while! I predict that they won't 'really' get it until you have SAT or ACT scores to show them.

Sorry they aren't getting it. I know how frustrating it must be for you!

{{hugs}} I know what u mean. 5th grade math is not the solution. (but nevertheless, Ds9 enjoyed his time with the 5th graders for that one month... although he wasn't learning anything new).

Another option:- this worked for Ds9 in his previous school. He did online math during math class time. Once a week after school, a high school student sat down with him for 30 minutes just to talk abt Math. He really enjoyed the time.

Please tell me about your DS online Math experience. I see this in our future for my DS9. You may PM me so I don't miss your post.
Did you bring in your own laptop?
Are you in public or private?
Did you have to pay for the class or the laptop?
How did it fit into the class?
Did other students react to this?
Was it destracting to other students?
Did your child wear a head set?
Did he need to move away from his regulaar seat?
What school/organization did you have the class with?
Did your DS have a instructor?
Did your school have someone oversee the class and communication?

    Hi onthegomom,

I replied to one of your older post earlier but u may have missed that. http://giftedissues.davidsongifted....n_line_learners_at_school.html#Post54320

Sorry for OT but I will post the answers here (instead of via pm). hopefully others will find them useful too.

Did you bring in your own laptop?
    No, the school provides it.

Are you in public or private?
    Private international school.

Did you have to pay for the class or the laptop?
The school agreed to pay for the first 3 months of the course. It was a trial for the school too since this was the first time they did something like that. No cost for laptop.

How did it fit into the class?
Not very ideal. Reasons stated in my previous reply.

Did other students react to this?
    As above.

Was it destracting to other students?
I hope not. He was the one being distracted. :P

Did your child wear a head set?
    Yes.

Did he need to move away from his regulaar seat?
Yes. He sat at, or near the teacher's table.

What school/organization did you have the class with?
    CTY

Did your DS have a instructor?
    In school, no. Online, yes.

Did your school have someone oversee the class and communication?
Yes. Someone from IT was to set up the laptop for him. Another person (under the Resource centre) helped to coordinate with the initial registration etc. After that, I am the one to monitor his scedule and communication with CTY.

    HTH. smile
