As long as my son has been in public school we have taken the 'luck of the draw' for teachers. So far teaching 'styles' have run the gamut from a teacher my DH still refers to as 'Captain Blye' to a really wonderful teacher for ds' 3rd grade.

Last year the schools here set up new websites where the teachers can post homework assignments, class snapshots and more. It does not appear mandatory for the teachers, some posted nothing at all.
I was grateful for the various things which ds's teacher posted last year, mostly photos, but also instructions for the longer term projects were very helpful to find on line.

Out of curiosity last week I checked out the pages for the 4th grade teachers/classes. So far none of them had updated last year's pages, so I got to check them all out. In my opinion this gives a really interesting (though I'm sure incomplete) picture of which teachers might work best for ds. There is one who seems to really stand out as good and at least a couple more who should be ok.

This seems like an interesting resource.
(Hopefully the school would not mind my looking at things like this, they are out there for all to see. )
Anyone else taking a look at their school/upcoming classroom website?

We still have little say in who ds gets, but this will at least prepare me a bit for the various 'styles' out there.

I have checked out the teacher websites at DS5's school too. It is very interesting to see what different teachers post or link to. Of course, DS is just starting kindergarten, so not quite as much information as I'd like on all the kindy teacher sites! But starting in 3rd and 4th, some teacher websites are very cool.

Oh, yes! GS10 & I already have a preconceived idea about his teacher based on her website. She has lots of great links!

Yes, I definitely have considered how lucky we are that they are doing these things.
Just with the school's home page, I'm finding out and able to plan for the meet and greet day for ds to meet his new teacher, the back to school night and a couple other things.
The school supply lists are posted, etc. It's just a good thing for the schools to do, maybe they are planning to send this out in paper form too, but I haven't seen a supply list come in the mail, or in ds' last back-pack load, so presumably they are saving on mailing/paper, which I think is great!

yes, our school only has one teacher out of 10 that did a page on their "teacher pages" There may be 2 k teachers. Pretty sad. The one first grade teacher isn't going to be his. That is a neat tool though.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool; my bubble was burst a bit by ds being assigned to a completely new teacher (and the letter said, we might be hiring more teachers, so there is a very good chance your child will be switched to a different teacher!)
Ack. So maybe by October I'll know who the teacher is for sure...
