Alright we'll try with out the prizes the first time & see how that goes!

MON, great idea about taking it in the car, we do frequent road-trips and I didn't even think of that!! shocked Although I doubt he's have a problem going at the side of the highway.

I'm not too worried about him getting upset about accidents as we've not made a big deal out of him peeing EVERYWHERE :D; but we'll find out as he starts potty training whether that is going to become an issue.

We are going to have to move the potty between his bedroom & the bathroom as we have no upstairs bathroom (another reason we decided on potty over toilet ring in the end).

Were definitely going to have to get a baby-gate for DS's bedroom, as it is he will sit in his bed a night and quietly play with his toes or read a book. I have a feeling there will be many nights he gets up and just goes and quietly plays in his room once he can get out of bed laugh. Everything in there is 100% baby-proofed (down to all the electrical sockets being behind big pieces of furniture), I foresaw this issue & we screwed everything to the walls!

I am worried about him being able to get his pants on & off, but if he starts potty training at all I've got a pretty powerful steam cleaner (2 dogs, 3 cats...) so I've got no problem letting him run around naked - he likes that better anyway!

We have the Kiddy Guard gate- they are expensive (and a bit noisy) but impossible for my kids to open or climb. (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2267704)

Also, if you do need to resort to a reward for successful attempts- consider stamps (on their hands, feet, etc.)?? Our local Little Gym uses them and the kids all go nuts to get stamped.

I just read a book about incorporating the Montessori method into your home (How to Raise an Amazing Child, The Montessori Way) that recommended that, from infancy, children do not sleep in a crib but instead on a matress or futon on the ground. The entire room should be baby proofed, of course. At least this would eliminate the risk of a fall from a crib for a climber but I don't know if it would work for all kids. I don't think my kids would ever go to bed if I "allowed" them to be out of it ever without permission. smile

Since his fatty-pants mother (ok I'm 5 months pregnant :D) couldn't get his crib-sheets out (see above about peeing ON diaper this morning...) with out taking off the front part of his crib, I decided today was a good day to just try sleeping in his toddler bed laugh.

Well it worked so well I don't think we'll be buying him a bed rail now smile. He did go to sleep on the floor, but I scooped him up and popped him back in bed, that was 3 hours ago & he hasn't fallen out yet (should be up soon, but he's great about taking LOOONG naps!! :D). There are LOTS of pillows in case he does decide to roll over.

That is an interesting idea of making them sleep on the floor, but you'd think that wouldn't teach them not to roll off their beds as adults :S.

Stamps? hmmmm, I'm not sure but that might work smile.

Wolf was an older potty trainer, but we used single m&m's as rewards. (Sugar is about the best source of motivation for him.) I never made him try to use the potty, just said if he used the potty rather than his diaper he'd get an m&m. Then once he was staying dry it was if you keep dry all day you get a treat. At that point we started forgetting about it and every so often he would ask for his treat, but it just died out on it's own accord.

    Why am I not surprised?

We went out and got DS a nice little first years potty which THANKFULLY has a toilet attachment, because he's a big boy & won't sit on his little potty, he wants to sit on the toilet!! laugh.

This is definitely going to require a little luck and ALLOT of towels! laugh.

    I forgot the funniest part!!!

So I tried to get him to sit on the potty last night (we're having NO luck with the sitting still :S) and he gets up and starts running around the kitchen. Then he grabbed a measuring cup off the counter & starts running around with it over his bits laugh.

Well that's definitely a portable potty Lucas...

(thankfully it's an old measuring cup I don't use for food any more :D).

There must be something in the air. This week my DS 19mo. has decided that he no longer wants to wear his diaper so he's stripping whenever his diaper becomes wet or soiled. I dusted off our potty and, after a morning of naked time, I have a wet chair and two pee spots on the rug.

Perhaps I should just use onsies for a while to keep the diaper on instead. smile

The first attempt at potty-training was a no go. I now think I gave up to easily convincing myself he's too young. However, Lucas & I were sitting in the living room this evening, I was looking at a garden catalogue while he's playing on the floor. Well I guess I got a little to into deciding my lettuce for next year because suddenly my little man is handing my his dirty diaper "All Done!"

    shocked

Once I got the horrified look of my face, because he's searching to see if he made his mommy happy, I had to give him a hesitant "good job buddy!" "you did good!" before I got that big beaming smile that means I can never really get mad at him for anything!

After after throwing him into the shower & getting the steam cleaner our I decided we're giving this whole thing another shot!

Thanks for all the great advice you guys already gave me laugh.
