My ds9 took a Cogat test in 1st grade. It says cognitive abbilities Test on it. Is this a IQ test? This is not on the DYS list. what do you make of the scores?

    National age scores:
    verbal 83
    quantitative 95
    nonverbal 91

    Natioanl percentile Rank
    Verbal 90
    Quantitative 98
    nonverbal 97

composite national age percentile rank of 92 is a general statement of his reasoning ability
composite grade scores national pertentile rank is 98

I believe this was given to all of 1st grade at the same time.

None of these are 99.9%. Would this count agaisnt him for DYS?

It's not an IQ test. I don't think it would count against him...many schools use it as a screening test to identify gifted students but it is not particularly well-suited to that purpose.

What makes me mad is that our district will *only* accept a CogAT score as evidence of giftedness. I homeschool and have given each of my HG+ sons (as determined by private testing using a real IQ test) the CogAT and neither of them would qualify based on CogAT scores.

Of couse, once identified as gifted using the CogAt, the district doesn't do anything anyway, so what am I mad about?
