Greetings all, long time lurker first time poster. Just got DS4 WPSSI scores back, while I will definitely have questions later, looking at you Dottie
, thought I would start by talking about our testing experience.
There seems to be a number of folks that are in the process of confirming what they suspect about their children, figured my experience would be helpful to other lurkers and newbies. Like so many other parents here we began to notice things DS was doing that others his age weren't, reading chapter books, math, and all the questions, oh my. Guess we had a bit of GT denial at first, it was easier to assume that his friends were developmentally behind than accept our son was advanced. After DS surprised us by teaching himself to skip count by 5's I realized it was time to do some research on GT, thanks Google for leading me here.
I can't say enough about how great this site has been for us. Even though this is my first post I have read so much about about so many of you I feel like i know you. After lots of reading it became clear we would need to test DS, unfortunately CTY had a 3 month wait and wanted $2,500 (full testing), not feasible for us in this economy. We selected our tester from a list given by a school we were considering, they require WPPSI as part of the admission process. I definitely wish we had either waited for CTY or found someone used to dealing with GT kids though at the end of the day the test served its purpose.
I was prepared for how the testing would go however what I was not ready for was the wait for the results. That was the longest 10 days in my life, compounded I'm sure by DS telling me he didn't think he did well and the tester giving zero feedback as to how things went. A few days I literally waited outside for the mail. Scores did finally arrive and they confirmed our suspicions
Tester did indicate in the report that DS became fatigued on 4th subtest and kept asking how many more questions, guess thats what you get when you test a 4 yr old and probably a good reason to wait if you can until they are older.
This has turned from a brief intro post into a small book so I will end here. The journey begins....
