Look for Sharon Gordon books at your library. She has several different themes (animals, colors, etc) and the books feature real photos, large text, and a single sentence on each page. My dd was so proud when she could read these independently!

Cool, thanks for all the ideas! I got only 2 sets (big books) with 4 books in each, from the Bob series. I thought she had seen only 1 or 2 of the little books so I was surprised she knew so much of it. Sounds like there are more than I knew, so I will add those to the list, thanks! Glad to help! I thought there were only a few of them too, until one day...there they all were in the book store in little boxed sets! Val

My DS' Grandma bought him the entire set of the Dick and Jane books. They still print them and are available in most stores and libraries.

ditto on the Brand New Reader series - my son also loved the series of readers called Now I'm Reading for beginning readers - there are like 4 different levels and he liked that after you read each book, you placed a sticker in the front cover to show that you have read it (they have 4 stickers for each book to help practice)here is a link to one of the sets in Barnes and noble http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Look-Around/Nora-Gaydos/e/9781584761679/?itm=48

I used the BOB books as it was good practice for all the "exceptions" in the English language. But just level 2 and 3 with about 15-16 books in each set. I got them at Costco at least 15 months ago.
After level 3, they say, move on to Chapter books and there isn't too much that she cannot read -- in Chapter books. And I also think BOB books worked, like Dr. Seuss, in the repitition of what they were practicing. I didn't find that with so many Step Into Reading books, like her princess stories. They were simpler to read but she didn't gain much skill.
