My daughter was recently tested for the gifted program here in New Mexico and was found she was gifted, with an IQ of 133, she is 5 years of and currently in Kindergarten, but she is getting bored at her classroom, nothing new to learn, what can we do to help her/challenge her?? (she loves to read, so we use a lot of time during the day to answer all her questions, which they can be a lot...), any resources we can use to help her? And what is the meaning of the IQ? Lots of sites in the web try to explain this, but at the end nobody wants to be wrong, so they are vague and don't really answer the questions we got, kinda like hearing a politician talk about a touchy subject, any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Dave,

I too am in NM and have found the schools in our area really good about catering to my kids needs. Subject acceleration or a full grade skip, they seem to be open minded.

Have you talked to the school about your options? There are many different scenario's that can give your DD what she needs.

I sent you a PM, click on the flashing envelope at the top!

Was the testing done through the school or privately? Has your DD had achievement testing? If not, that would be the next step.

I think many kids find K boring, It is the worst grade because half of the kids entering never had any reinforcement from home so the teachers spend a lot of time going over the basics. I think you will find that 1st grade is a litte better. If she was tested by the school I think it safe to assume that they will have a special class or program for the gifted. Your school should have a gifted councelor who can help out in that department.
IQ generally means that your child has a high level of reasoning skills and can learn things quickly.
We recently learned that our child was gifted as well and our gifted councelor reccommended that we do enrichment activities with her at home like music, games, and science experiments. She also told us that academics are not the only area a gifted child needs to be challenged in. Good luck and happy learning!
