I knew Kriston would have some good recommendations. I can comment a bit on whether the Osborne one would be good for sensitive readers. Osborne does not change the myths, so for example, Odin still plucks out one of his eyes. But there are no icky pictures. It seems there are a lot of eyeball-related things in the norse myths... So if you're squeamish about even talking about someone pulling a dead giants eyeballs out of his robes and throwing them up in the sky to become stars, then Norse myths are probably not for you!

LOL! Or the killing scenes. Foes tend to be really, REALLY dead when the Norse gods get done! eek

But the D'Aulaire version isn't really graphic either. More like conceptually troubling than highly descriptive, if that makes any sense...

Awesome site, thanks! Ds loves this kind of stuff. For older kids, the beowulf illustrated book which came out a couple years back (based on the movie) was pretty cool, though gruesome.

Another vote for the d'Aulaires' Norse myths from la famille Marx. We also love the d'Aulaire Greek myths.

We're reading D'Aulaire Greek Myths right now. I read a couple of pages a night to the kids and even my 13 yo enjoys it. There is some violence in it ...
