Hmmm... Miss 7 gradeskipped into year 4 this year and we're awaiting her first school report (Term 1) on Thurs. The teacher has indicated to me that she's a "middle-of-the-road" year 4 student. I guess that's good, right? I mean, last year she was a middle-of-the-road 2nd year student, with poor learning behaviours, a huge attitude problem and couldn't care less about learning. Despite complaining about the lack of maths, she now loves school. I so dont want to get hooked up on grades, but I know the teachers will be looking at her results as an indication of whether the skip was worked or not. I think it's been really successful, but I wonder if from a teacher's perspective if only looks "successful" if she's high achieving???

Last year, I dreaded reading the girls' school reports. At least this year, I don't think there will be any major surprises. But it's hard to separate expectation from achievement, yes?

Since it's first term, I'd be happy with middle of the road. There is a lot of adjusting to do etc. learning the new rules, and a whole new group of peers.

My eldest who skipped 5th to enter 6th this year defined success for herself as performing as well in 6th as she had in 4th albeit with somewhat more effort. Admittedly it would have been hard for her not to exert more effort in that she was basically doing nothing in 4th to earn the grades she was getting. In that regard, she was successful. To me, if your dd is achieving the same (doing as well as she was in the grade she was in last year), the acceleration has not been a failure. Hopefully the school will not view it that way.
