Laura Vanderkam's latest post has an interview with a DYS family consultant. This post also has a link to our very own Lorel's post, describing her family's experience with the DYS program. Thank you Lorel for your perspective, and for including your kids' thoughts on the program!

SPG, thanks for posting both links (I never would have found them on my own). I enjoyed reading someone else's perspective on DYS.

Although we are new to DYS, I have to say it's nice to know they're available. Helps to shake that feeling of "I'm all alone".

For us, that's one of the best parts of DYS, Shari. I imagine how parents of HG+ kids managed before the Internet and programs like DYS, and I just shudder! So lonely!

Thanks for sharing. We haven't gotten DS4's test results back yet (he finishes his testing tomorrow), but if he qualifies I am feeling like applying would be a good thing.

I'm happy to be of help! Thanks for the PR, St. Pauli! My hit counter is bouncing back fast from the usual February drop.

    CFK-

    Here's the link: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art34441.asp

It's nothing new for anyone familiar with her work, but it is a nice short summary of her levels.

    I'll check my mail...

I see you are from New England Lorel, does DYS ever do local get togethers with kids? I am just curious because it would be nice to be able to get together with some others more than once a year. We live in upstate NY. I know I am jumping the gun since DS4 is not in it yet, but definitely I forsee him meeting the criteria.

That would be great. Thanks for the info Dottie. Drives aren't a big deal to us really. We visit family in PA several times a year and make a 8 hr car trip. Honestly, I love road trips. They remind me of my younger days, LOL. And now all I have to do is play the waiting game to get DS's results back. Hopefully we will hear back in the next couple weeks. I am quite anxious to get his results back. He is finishing his 5th and final test today. I thought it would be a little much for him but he seems to be doing find and actually enjoying it somewhat.

Plus if you get to be friends with people, you can make your own arrangements to see them. That's fun! smile
