onthegomom, I can tell you that, no, they are not being challenged enough in school, BUT... I continue to provide ways to enrich them outside of school to make up for it. To be honest with you, without a drastic acceleration, I don't know what they would be able to do that would challenge them enough. My daughter scored in the 99th% on both standardized tests she took last year so.... I am not sure how much challenge the school can provide keeping her in grade level. They don't typically grade skip at my school. I have stayed actively involved in advocating though and a persistent mom and myself brought about some changes through our efforts so... as long as I remain an active voice, then changes are yet to come. I encourage every parent I talk to, who expresses the same concern about lack of challenge to talk to the administration about their concerns. The more voices that they hear, the more likely a change will occur. I have been told to "sit tight" because this grade (2nd) is supposed to be really big on differentiation and ability grouping which should be "of more challenge" for my child. We have only been in school since the end of Aug. so we will see.
