I am looking for an answer for when should a child use adverbs? I haven't really thought anything about it because DD has been doing it forever but my friend freak out and the milestone charts don't really show it.

Can someone direct me to a milestone chart that has that information or confirm when they should?

    Thanks.

Here is one I found, just refers to their use as 'starts at age 3 to use some adjectives and adverbs'; what sorts of adverbs is your dd using? I mean there's 'very' and then there's 'accidentally' or 'smoothly' at the other end of the spectrum. I don't think most kids are using 'eventually' at age 3... smile

This one mentions adverbs at the 60 month milestone, and in general is a pretty interesting list.

And for good measure, some adverbs...

DD has used the low end adverbs such as never, almost, nearly, only, not, afterwards forever (I couldn't even tell you exactly when she started but before she was 2). But she also uses more complicated ones such as accidentally, never, often, and terribly.

What started this whole thing was it was past her bed time so I told her it was late and she needed to change into her pajamas. And she responded with 'But it isn't terribly late.'

And for what it's worth my 29 DD actually does say 'eventually' a lot.

But after posting the question I continued to look and did come across the site showing 60 mths which yes interesting list but also some state guidelines for Kindergarten curriculum and during the second half of the year they work on adverbs. So I think the 60 mths list might be more accurate but they should start using some around 3.

    Thanks for looking chris.

    That's fun, good for her!!

Our dd2.75 is using some fun adverbs too, but I also never thought much about it. Sometimes she rolls out a bigger one and it does strike me as surprising/amusing; 'eventually' was one she used last week that caught my ear. Probably because I am always telling her she will get to do different things 'eventually'.
Her funniest thing lately was when she said ' I want a red red red red red car for Christmas, one that is very very very very red. '
    Ok, red car. Check.

She is something else. That last few days she argues that she isn't dormant before going to bed at night, since learning that word from talking about brown grass. I guess not since I have to go up after 10 pm to make her get under the covers and stop playing. But when it is time for a nap she will tell me 'I feel a little dormant and probably should go to bed.'
