Hi, all, I'd like to ask for suggestions for memoirs. DS8 has been into biography for a while, but recently he has got picky. He likes to read about other people's childhood, in depth. In other words, he's fed up with books such as "childhood of famous Americans" which are too simplistic for him. Recently he read a short memoir by the Japanese writer Kenzaburo Oe, and was really impressed by the elegant language and the thoughtful reflections on historical events. So I'm looking for books of similar type, maybe Beverly Cleary's memoirs (but DS8 is not interested in girls, yet), Russell Baker's Growing Up, and the like. I checked Hoagie's list but theirs are more like the "childhood of famous Americans" type. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks. (Oh, he also tried Surely You Are Joking, Mr. Scientist, he likes the humor but some of the content is hard to understand.)

OK, never mind. Did a thorough search on the web, turned up 10 times more childhood memoirs than DS can read...
