Also, our preference would have been to go to K and then skip 1st grade. It was made clear to us by one of the admins that this would definitely not have been a possibility. Learning more later, I know it would have been a possibility, but it would have taken quite a bit of effort to make it happen. As it turned out, it was easier to go the "early admissions" to first route so that is what we choose.

Good point. You definitely may wind up taking what you can get, whatever that is!

    Hi shellymos--

I don't have anything to contribute to your decision-making process--but just wanted to say that I hope your little guy is feeling happier than he was last week--I've been thinking of you.

    Hi shellymos,
my ds7 skipped K. We don't regret it for a minute. It was hard at first to consider it as an option, but once we realized where he was compared to other kids entering K we felt much better about the skip. We considered doing K for the play and social aspect, but then knew our son would be upset to leave those friends and skip 1st. Sure enough, now he's in 3rd and really could academically be in 4th. He is adamant about not wanting to leave his friends even though he complains that most of 3rd grade is boring and easy. Your child may be quite different and do fine with that - skipping first. Really is a kid by kid decision.
