    Hi, does anyone know of good books on word origins for elementary school kids? My DS8 has been very curious about this topic but the books that I found at the libary are either too "kiddie" or too "grown-up"...

    Thanks.

    Hi - I just saw this in the Mindware catalog. I haven't actually seen it though, so no opinions.

    yeah, we actually have that book - not that we've done too much in it so far, but it looks good. I also like the other stuff from that publisher:

    The Oxford English Dictionary contains original word origins.

    Hi, sorry to resurrect an old topic, but I just got an advert from Oxford University Press that I thought might be of interest in re: this thread. OUP has what they call the "Word Lover's Set" of two books by David Wilton:
    1. Word Origins and how we know them: Etymology for Everyone;
    2. Word Myths: Debunking Linguistic Urban Legends.

    They look rather fun to me (though not aimed at kids, but who knows? One of Harpo's favourite books is David Sacks's "Letter Perfect" about the history of the alphabet), and right now they're 80% off, according to my flyer!

    I see Word Origins at $27.95 marked down to $14.85 and the set of the two together is out of stock. Bummer. I didn't go far enough to see if they are back ordering the set or have just gotten rid of them. Do you have a coupon code or anything?

    This is not a book, but still a fun resource.
