DH and I just got back from our first report card for DS7

He was put ahead a grade this year into 3rd.

Basically his teacher off the record advice, get him out of the public system and put him in a private school, home school or find a Montessori. She also said she really thinks that he needs OT. The only OT teacher at the school is a nightmare.

My head is about to explode!

We are looking at a private school, but we are hoping that we can get full financial aid. I have thought about home school, if he gets into Johns Hopkins CTY. (We are waiting for his results of the scat.)

We can't afford anything- DH and I are both out of our minds with stress.

Just to make things interesting DS7 has been diagnosed with this cluster headaches, and the supplement that the neurologist prescribed has the side effect of depression. This morning after the meeting I had to leave my otherwise happy go lucky kid in tears. (He has only taken it for 2 nights and we are already seeing the side effects.)

I know that all these issues are solvable..... but right now I need to vent.

Oh dear! I am so sorry to hear you are feeling overwhelmed right now...and your ds too! Sounds like time for a break thinking about school altogether. Maybe even a few days off for the kiddo would help with the headaches. I don't know, just throwing out an idea. Hang in there - sending good thoughts/wishes smile smile

I'm sending you good thoughts, too. I totally understand that this is consuming you, as it would me.

Is the teacher even trying to do anything to help until you are able to follow the advice to pull him out? Maybe then you wouldn't feel so alone.

Hugs to you and your family. I'm also sending good thoughts your way that solutions come your way quickly.

I admit I don't know much about the headaches medication. I hope that there might be an alternative without that side effect.

Hang in there and keep us updated! Maybe the SCAT results will come today:)

If you need help, just say so. I know how daunting it can seem. I'm happy to help if I can!

Soupy! I am so sorry! I have a couple of comments for you. First, the teacher shouldn't have said that to you because it's illegal for the school to tell you they can't accomodate your child's learning needs......for any reason.

I'm sure she is trying to help you, though, so I wouldn't rat her out.

I'm sure DS will qualify for CTY, but try not to worry about it until you get the results, okay?

My father was diagnosed with cluster headaches in his thirties. It is genetic and I suffer from severe migraines, but they are somewhat different from cluster headaches. I believe current science says it is related to automatic nervous system, but I'm not totally certain I am correct in inferring this.

Interestingly, my father started his own business in his fifties. He told me the day he started his business he didn't have a headache and to this day he's never ever had another. He thinks stress kicks them off.

Maybe DS needs a few mental health days off from school. Could the depression be rooted from something going on at school or are you for sure it's the supplement?

p.s. I think homeschooling is great. For anyone for any reason. smile

I don't have much to add to the others except that i'm so sorry. I'm sending good thoughts. I would second or third the recommendation that your DS takes a few days off. Hopefully there is another treatment for your DS's headaches.

Fist, ((hugs)) to you and your DS. My son(7 1/2) went to PS K and 1 month of 1st grade. After getting his IQ results back and the school telling us "he was too smart" for them to challenge him, we began HSing. It has been wonderful for our family. DS was having terrible headaches 2-3 times a week.....needing to come home from school because of them. Since we have been HSing for over a year, he has had 2 smile

    WELL!

DS7 MRI results came back and it seems that he isn't having cluster headaches at all (well maybe)

On the MRI they could see his Sphenoid Sinuses is filled and compacted... not really sure if it is the Sphenoid Sinuses. Because the neurologist spelled it incorrectly....mmmmmm

it's the one that goes behind the eye he said.... totally filled and then another one is headed the same way.

So he going to go see an ear nose and throat man!

But the upside is the neurologist thinks that something else is going on and we should talk to him about ds7 being LD. He doesn't intergrate the two hemispheres well and his performance IQ compared to his reading and math IQ is not great, something about there being a 17 point difference. (Actaully it's more like a 40 point difference, which i was told by the school was fine. yeah, home school)

anyway... I am still topsy tirvey but at least i am calmer about it all
