Well...just kidding on the Stanford-Binet. I emailed the GT teacher today to figure out what DD5 was doing in school, and it turns out they screened her on the OLSAT. The GT teacher didn't have her scores in front of her, but said she passed the screen, which would be at least 98 percentile. That isn't a surprise given that DD fits the profile of a high achiever. Between the OLSAT and her high MAP scores, I guess that's all the testing we need for her school currently. A bit bummed that I can't get my curiosity fulfilled over her IQ but it's just that..curiosity.

The GT program is not strong at all. Just some enrichment once a week. I had hoped she would get in only because it's an extra tool for advocacy in case we needed it. And I don't think we'd need to advocate for her too much until 3rd grade, because it's a Reggio Emilia program until then and so far she's had great teachers that can adapt to her needs.

Now, for DS4, I guess, as I keep saying, that we'll have to see? I would assume that he and the OLSAT would not get along, and I'm also afraid he wouldn't do well on MAP. Again, not really concerned about whether or not he gets into GT, just concerned about advocacy in general. If he doesn't fit the profile of a typical high achiever, not sure what to do. Not sure if 504s are in our future, etc. Again seems pretty lucky that at least we are in a Reggio Emilia program for the primary grades.

So that being said, I need to learn more about this visual development evaluation. Who do I go to for that? Are there specific test names I should be aware of? How do I describe the problem? (It seems weird to say, "My four year old can't do 24+35 when it's written down!" as if it's normal for a four year old to be able to do that type of addition :-> And he's also likewise "ahead" in reading compared to classmates. We're still on BOB Books #1-#4 though because he's not progressing beyond "Mat sat. Mac sat. Mac sat on Mat." and I'm assuming some of that is memorization)

This is all so ridiculously helpful! Thank you so much!

It's amazing how little I care at this point whether or not either kid is "gifted" or not as long as they are getting the resources they need. Hopefully we'll get this visual thing sorted out. I've googled and found the right doctors to contact in about a year, and I've also emailed and asked his preK teacher to keep an eye out for any delays or asychronicity between his verbal and non-verbal abilities.
