Hi all, could someone recommend a decent Pre-Algebra workbook for my son to do over the summer? I would like him to get familiar with using Efofex over the summer doing 6th grade Pre-Algebra. Thanks in advance!

We have the AOPS Pre Algebra book and I was really impressed with it. Previously we have used Life of Fred, and liked that too, but we do not have the Pre-Algebra books, so I cannot comment specifically.

AOPS is a comprehensive textbook. I was not sure if that is what you were looking for since you asked for a workbook.

We have the AOPS pre-algebra book too - that would be my recommendation for meaningful pre-algebra work smile

For a summer practice i suggest looking at Math Mammoth. Level 7 is their PA. It comes in A and B and is PDF. Alternatively you could buy one of their topic books (under $10) on an area of interest and challenge. Go and have a look on the website anyway.

Yeah that's my hesitation. I wasn't really looking for a textbook... More of a lighter workbook type thing .. you know, for summer. The books do look good but ... I'm afraid they'd be sort-of too intense and off-putting for summer.

Don't know anything that is not textbook like - you could try the Singapore Math Challenging Word Problems book (http://www.singaporemath.com/Challenging_Word_Prob_for_Primary_Mathematics_6_p/pmcwp6.htm)
or you could buy the "Key To" series (you can select the topics that your son needs to review - this is book 1, there are 10 books - https://www.amazon.com/Key-Algebra-Book-Operations-Integers/dp/1559530014 )

If you're main goal is figuring out how to implement efofex or other software, one thing you could do is just pick up any-old pre-algebra workbook from a bookstore or local homeschool store and work from that. You can most likely get a list of what's covered in your school district's pre-algebra curriculum online at your district website, so you could cross-check that vs the workbook to be sure you're covering the AT you need for next year.

If you're trying to keep it light, he might be inspired by the game-like approach of Alcumus, the on-line problems on the AoPS website. They don't have the same challenge level as the textbook questions, but they cover all the material. And you can jump around to any topic you like (in pre-algebra or elsewhere), or just follow the logical progression. There are videos for the whole book there too, which may help if he gets stuck.

And while it might seem a bit ridiculous, there's nothing that says you can't print the Alcumus questions to work out on efofex!
