DD10 accelerated into 5th grade last Spring so she now is in 6th grade with her sister, DD11. I figured that DD might take awhile to adjust, grade-wise, but she is straight A's in everything (high 90's). She says it's all easy except math which is an accelerated math class.If she takes the Explore will it mean anything in middle school? The middle school basically tells us parents to "back off" and have the kids "self-advocate" so I don't know what the school would even do with the information.
The deadline is tomorrow so I need to decide quickly!!
Side note - DD11 is getting high 90's as well. I thought middle school was supposed to be more challenging to kids. Maybe 6th grade is all about learning to be a middle schooler and 7th and 8th is tougher?

From what I hear 6th grade is transitional, they get them used to middle school and 7th and 8th is harder.

I certainly hope so - my DD finds the pace of the curriculum excruciatingly sluggish in 6th grade.

The Explore test is usually given to 8th graders to test college readiness. If your DD10 in 6th grade takes the test and scores well, you (or your DD10) may be able to show the results to the middle school to advocate for more challenged curriculum for her. Just a thought.

Good point - we used it to convince the middle school to place our DD into the8th grade accelerated Maths class when she started 6th grade. OP - good luck!

Well I wondered about middle schools placing kids in other classes. I know more about the elementary system. Both DD's are in a good place for math (it teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th in one year.).Fast pace. DD10 is basically oozing along in social studies and science as she's basically taught herself those subjects for years due to all her reading.
