Has anyone experience or information about Fusion Academy? It is a chain of private, one-on-one schools, looks like you can take one class or a full course load, on your own schedule. I wonder if it would be useful for selected classes for a homeschooler, or pullout of a single class, or doing some academics there and electives at the public school? I think it's middle and high school level.

Yes a friend's daughter went there, she loved it. I did go to see one in Los Angeles, and I think there were those options but it was last year so I don't remember as I've been looking at a lot of middle schools and I'm starting to mix things up wink. Her daughter is very bright (very possibly gifted, although she wasn't tested) very creative, and had a tough time in regular school. She switched to Fusion, I think full time, and it was a great choice for her.

I'm curious how the hiring works, Many retired teachers here tutor, and this sounds like a good "next career" for them.

I wonder if it would be a good fit for a student who enjoys school and learning, but has trouble with the accountability-to-teachers area. There is no homework, all work is done with your teacher. You are on your own schedule and calendar. One funny thing they mention, is that accelerated students can cover an entire year of a course in 7-8 months. That is almost an academic year around here, so they may want to change their wording on that.

Does anyone have a high school that allows for classes to be taken for credit concurrent with the school calendar?

I've looked at it and considered it and/or another chain like it called Halstrom for just a class or two. Went as far as checking out Halstrom last year. But they wouldn't be able to do what we wanted. I wanted DS to take English from them while still attending his H.S. for most of his other classes. But it seems my school district won't accept a required class like English from them unless they already failed it. I could have signed him up for Spanish, or this year could sign him up for almost any class BUT English. In my case I didn't think Halstrom's science & math classes came even close to what is offered at DS's High School.

If you sign up full time it's more expensive that most full private schools with a lot less amenities. It's really akin paying to have your child privately homeschooled. Most of these schools are in business complexes and don't have much in the way of arts, music, clubs. I found the marketing more compelling than when I visited Halstrom. Halstrom isn't as expensive as Fusion and DS's therapist has a few students who do use it part time.

Unless you NEED that flexibility or have a child that already failed a classes, or got kicked out of traditional school. A friend of a friend's child used either Halstrom or Fusion when he was home getting Chemo and the local alternative H.S. didn't offer AP classes.

I first considered it just for one class when my DS wanted to take Japanese and Fusion was one of the few H.S.'s around I found that offered it.

Yes, she is 15 now, so it was in middle school.
