Isn't there a "members only" board or forum for the DYS program? I was under the impression that there is a separate online community for those who are part of that community. But that this resource exists for the general GT community. I believe that some of the people here are also part of the DYS program. But you can't access the DYS boards/community unless your child is part of the program.
    That's my understanding, anyway.

Mine too! We aren't DYS. Although I am grateful to the Davidson Institute for the many things they do for profoundly gifted children.
Along, with providing this excellent forum for parents.

I tend to err on the side of giving people too much information about GT/HG/DYS resources because too many parents are unaware of options for their kids. DS certaintly would have missed out on a lot of opportunities if it weren't for being "enlightened" by other parents. While I wouldn't be surprised if several parents have been "put off" by the info. I have given in response to complaints of their child being underchallenged, if even one kid benefits from the info. I'm glad I opened my mouth. wink

That said, I understand the temptation to get excited about the prospect of connecting with another child and parent going through similar issues and then maybe spilling out too much too soon about your experiences. I met another mom at the pool whose DS clicked with mine. She told me her DS was 7 with an Nov. b-day and going into 3rd so of course I assumed he skipped a grade and spilled out our whole grade-skip ordeal. Turns out she moved from an area with a Dec. cutoff and is a teacher who is anti-grade skip... Definitely a foot in mouth moment... blush

Oh no Jool!!!! YIKES! I guess the lesson is always get all the information first before you spill your beans. I'll have to remember that.

My boys are not DYS (haven't applied) and I'm here. I've learned alot and really enjoy the community-feel here!

Hi, Jool! smile Good to see you!

Just to second Dottie: you do NOT have to have DYS kid to be here, nor should anyone worry about that sort of thing at all. This forum is for anyone who can use it!

I love the community-feel, too. I would cry hard if anyone felt they didn't belong when there was stuff here they could use!

Thanks for the feedback, folks. FWIW, I didn't mention this board, but she could easily find it. I don't think I said anything really negative, did I? But yes, I see the potential for even further embarrassment!

Austin, are you making a Superman joke? His dad was Jor-El, right?
I'll take it as a compliment, though my x-ray vision seems to be defective and I can't actually run faster than a speeding bullet.

I agree that this board should serve anyone who can benefit from it.

We're going to invite J to a homeschool beach day...

You don't have to be a DYS family to use this forum. This is the Davidson public forum. There is a private forum for DYS families but this forum is much more active, which is why you see so many DYS families participating.

I haven't posted here in months and now it's 2 in one day! Thanks for the welcome back Kriston. I really do appreciate this board and like the fact I can feel comfortable just jumping back in after being gone for a while. smile
