I don't know much about the scores, but DS8 was tested in K and 1st with SAT 10. FYI, at the very least, those scores qualify him to take the JHU CTY SCAT talent search (>95% in math or reading, I believe). All those upper 90's say smart to me, and whether or not the school thinks smart, he clearly knows his stuff. Really, if he's at 99, how many kids are doing better than he is? Seems to me you can get some mileage out of those results with the school, but I'll leave the specifics to more knowledgable posters.

At the very least with these test scores, I don't feel like I am crazy when I say that our ds is smart despite what they see in school.

No, you're not. And I don't remember your DS's school experiences, but often elementary school teachers focus on things like behavior or writing (b/c that's what they're working on at that age) and miss the rest of the package. That was certainly our experience.

Isn't the SCAT a computerized test? If so, would that make testing more palatable for him?

SCAT is multiple choice. It is an above level test so you would get more info on how he compares to other gifted kids who take the test.

Ditto to what others have already said. But I wanted to add that for next year (a long way off, I know, but I like to be prepared!) you should ask the school to administer a version of the SAT 10 that is above his grade level. My son just finished 2nd grade (but is already accelerated) and took the 4th grade level SAT 10. It helped us a lot, since he placed in the 60th% overall compared to fourth graders. The principal has a much better understanding now of just where our son is in terms of learning. I suggest that you let the school know now that you would like an above grade level test for next year. Since they administer it to everyone at our school it was no problem for them to just give our son the 4th grade version.

It's a pretty short test. I think that he could do the math section and then just guess on the verbal section if he wanted to...
