If you go with a bag that requires rolling the board, turn it over before rolling it, so that it's easier to use when you open it again. (I think I have that right, I'm not near ours now.)

You can get single-weighted, if you are afraid that this one is too heavy (and it probably is for a 6yo chess player).
Triple-weighted is good for small children, because they tend to knock things over. They will be strong enough to easily move the pieces. At a tournament, players are sitting at opposites sides of a table, and small children have trouble reaching the opposite side of the usual tournament-size board. A set for playing at home on the floor should probably be smaller.

You definitely don't need something more expensive now, but later, if you'll decide to go to a tournament, you'll have to invest in a good chess clock.

My ds7 plays in tournaments and got one that looks like this for his 6th birthday from a friend who also plays in tournaments. The pieces aren't heavy so maybe it's not this exact one. I definitely recommend getting one like this with a bag and board that rolls up. I also recommend chess clubs and tournaments. Great fun for a chess player!

Thanks, everyone! I feel much more informed and confident making a purchase.
