I am clueless about this and would greatly appreciate help. DD6 is moving from current school kinder to new school which is a gifted high achieving magnet school. As mentioned in my previous post, I do not believe they will skip her, but will subject accelerate. She is currently in kinder but goes to 1st grade after kinder ends and attends 2nd grade reading group.
We still need to meet with new principal to discuss logistics. HOWEVER, I would like to know if I should be asking her current school to administer year end or assessment tests (I suppose something like the CAT5), or if I should be asking new school to do that after she starts, and then place her in the appropriate classes for math etc.
She has had 1st grade year end assessments for LA at her current school, but nothing that would show that is is capable of more than that.
She will be taking the WIAT next week to hopefully qualify for DYS, but I have been reading on here that school do not put weight on that for placement.

    Thank you!

Personally, I'd rather have testing done by the school familiar with high ability kids as I'd presume they'd be more likely to use more open-ended tools.

Year end tests for K? In my state they only do year end tests for 2nd grade and up. If you are talking about testing for placement into subject acceleration then I would assume the new school would want to do the testing themselves. I would ask the new school this question.

Thank you. I received a note from her 1st grade teacher that reading, writing and math assessments are coming up. I guess these are informal ones not the official common core tests.

I will talk to the new school about assessment for testing. Thanks again!
