Wow! Youre son earned the highest SAT score of all talent search participants in your entire state! That is a HUGE accomplishment which Im certain will open many doors! Congratulations to all!

Thanks, everyone. I didn't really think it was that big a deal. But I am pleased to get some congrats to pass along to DS. DS has a fall birthday and would be in grade 5 if we'd enrolled him at the age permitted, so as a 6th grader, he is marginally younger than most of his "classmates". Sometimes I wonder how competitive he'd be if we kept him at what we were told was "age appropriate" way back when. He might come out further on top, or he might have just shut off the learning and coasted. It's hard to say.

Delbows, it was only the SCAT test for grade six, so not the SAT. He'll do that next year. The SCAT is fast and on a computer, so MUCH less of a challenge than the SAT, especially for my son with 2e issues.

Dottie, I'm not sure what you mean about somebody noticing. Who is likely to notice? As far as I can tell, there's not any tangible reward associated with the score.

    thanks again, folks!

I dont know anything about the SCAT, but it seems especially well known on the east coast. The fact that your ds scored higher than all other gifted 6th graders in your state is quite impressive-whatever the test!

Have I mentioned lately how much I love the folks on this board? smile This is what a support board is all about!

On a related note, "Hector" received his ACT scores today. He did fantastic! His composite was in the 98th percentile (among all ACT test takers, most of whom are 16-18) and he is above the average for schools such as Duke, Brown, Johns Hopkins, and Williams, though *slightly* lower than the average composite reported for Princeton and MIT. If he had time to complete the math section, I am pretty sure he could have done even better.

I'm really excited because with these scores in hand, I don't see how the local community college can deny that DS would benefit from taking courses there. We're thinking of his doing a science or math course in the Spring of 2009.
