So, my son only took a few achievement tests when he was last tested - he just really ran out of steam (and we ran out if time). Where does one go to get just achievement testing? I assume I could go back to the neuropsych but that is expensive. I guess I could ask school but I feel like they'd only do it for a good reason like looking for an issue not just my curiosity and maybe using the results for DS to get into DYS or to advocate for more differentiation. So where else do people get such testing?

The major university here does psychoeducational testing and they use a sliding scale too. And I bet just wanting a woodcock Johnson achievement test wouldn't be that expensive. Actually, you don't have to be a psychologist to give a woodcock Johnson. When I was a teacher in the 90s I gave it all the time.

You could have him take the Explore. It is inexpensive, works for DYS, and apparently works for differentiation as well. The deadline is coming up, and it is usually only given in Jan and Feb, so this is your chance for this year.

Irena, I'll second the recommendation to consider taking Explore. Re WJ-III Achievement tests etc, check to see if you can find out who the parents in your local homeschool community use for achievement testing.

You have to do it thru a talent search. We signed up thru Carnegie Mellon. You can google C-MITES or go to www.cmu.edu/cmites. Then once at their site, look for the Explore info. Is your DS in 3rd? I can't remember right now if the Explore can be taken in 2nd.

Cool site - thanks! But DS is in 2nd grade... It doesn't look like an option for 2nd graders.

Check the Duke TIP site. They may offer it for 2nd graders. I believe one talent search somewhere does.

Thanks. I found this site (that may be of interest to you Gabalyn):
    http://home.comcast.net/~askpauline/hs/homeschoolevallist.html

I am thinking maybe I contact some of these people and just see if she could administer a WJII or Wiat achievement test.
we'll see. Thanks for your help all!

I will PM you the contact info for my tester -- not sure if she is the cheapest. She is in Wyndmoor.
