hey thanks for the advice smile

Today I just found out that DD thinks that making mistakes will make her more stupid ... SHe just reasoned 'if learning something new makes me more intelligent, then making mistakes makes me stupid'.

I just point out that if I sit in my bed all day doing nothing, I do not make mistakes but I do not learn anything at all either! I stressed that making mistakes is part of the learning process. I hope this helps for tomorrow...

Bummer about the making mistakes problem, especially finding out the day before the test. I'm sure lots of gifted kids have this perfectionism-related behavior. Our son didn't want to try new stuff either. We like to read Magic School Bus books quote Ms. Frizzle for this --"Yes! Take chances! Make mistakes! that's how we learn!" or something like that.

    Well,

    we are back smile

It went quite well. I got her scores right after and her total IQ is 144. The verbal IQ is 147. The other numbers I do not remember. In a couple of weeks I will receive the complete report. The test ceiling is 150 and she was close to the ceiling in several of the subtests so I think this is still a lower limit.

In any case, now she has her 'label GT' and she can go to the GT school. It seems that there is a good chance that there is one open next year, in January. Until then I will have to find a solution. Until she is 5 she will stay home. And from September to January.... well we are now looking for solutions.

Thanks a lot for your help and support smile

YEAH!!!!! Your DD is not quite 5 right? So it wasn't the WISCIV she took? Was it the WIPPSI or SBV? I'm wondering about having my newly 5yr old tested.

    Hi,

it was a Dutch test, the SON_R
    http://www.testresearch.nl/sonre/sonr2e.html

You know, Dutch like to do things the Dutch way smile

And yes, DD is 4yr and 8 months.

She seemed to like it a lot. She came out with a BIG smile of satisfaction.

Congrats! Glad it went so well!

That test sounds/looks a bit like the NNAT - also non-verbal with a ceiling of 150.

I'm glad all went well and that your DD enjoyed herself. Now we just have to keep our fingers crossed for you that the GT school opens on schedule.

    Yippee!
What a relief! You got your label - and she is MORE than 'a bit gifted' - I'm so happy for your family. Finally someone will listen and believe. What a weight off your shoulders!

What are you going to do when she turns 5?
Does her schooling count as 'official?'

Have you tried to find homeschoolers nearby?

How difficult is it to 'open your own school?'

Will the old school be impressed by the test data?

Can you use the test data to show that you have a recent change in your Orientation and now understand the importance of Gifted School and are waiting for the new gifted school to open? It seems to be worth trying.

Anyway - I've very glad for you, and sending lots of love,
    Grinity
