...even their "worst" looks pretty good, so the teacher is probably going to think I am looney when I go in there to discuss "the problems" she is having...
Our new superintendent is currently trying to implement a G&T program (non state funded) into our schools. Her 4th grade teacher and I discussed how supportive he is of the G&T kids who are not being adequately challenged, Unfortunately, she said she can only come up with creative ways to challenge DD, but she is tied to the curriculum for the grade (which is why I often supplement with activities, learning, etc. at home). But I think that her being aware of this and him being sensitive to it, might give DD a better shot at getting some extra help at school.
Yikes, yes! It sounds like her most recent tests were an "off-day" for sure! Your poor DD was probably feeling awful!
You sound very on top of it and your DD has shown that she is capable of very high scores. Also, I believe you have already done one of the most important things by instilling a love of reading. There is no reason to believe that her future test scores will not be higher. Perhaps the school could be doing more to help, however. Progress for her will not look the same as progress for a student in the middle of the class.
Our state does not fund G&T, either, but I do have to give our school some credit - they have been trying to differentiate. I do think it helps. It is encouraging that your teacher/superintendent sound supportive of providing an adequate challenge. Could they perhaps cluster (if they are not already) some of better readers together for book analysis or word study? By 4th grade, even if the same teacher has to teach different levels of readers (not ideal), they can work in groups better for short periods of time than they would be able to in say, kindergarten.

All of my best to you and your DD!
