Thanks polarbear. Interesting that your DS had large splits but in different directions over two tests. My DS actually took the Weschler when he was 3 and he also had a split of about 25 points with that one, in the same direction (performance IQ being higher). But both scores were about 25 points lower so his full scale IQ was only 106. That's about what I was expecting to see this time as well, or a bit higher. At age 3, DS was not exactly cooperative so I figured the verbal score, at least (which was only around 90) was an underestimate. I wonder if DS's verbal score will continue to go up as he ages, since he had a speech delay and didn't really start talking in decent conversations til about 1.5 years ago. I wonder how much is uneven brain development. DS was obsessed with objects and figuring out how things worked as a toddler and now he's much more social.
I wonder if I should ask the school about an expressive language disorder. His speech seems to be "catching up" but is still sometimes incomprehensible. He did have a language assessment about 1.5 years ago (privately) and scored around the 86th percentile so I kind of let it go at that point. And his SLP with the school does not seem concerned about his language at all. But she's kind of a dope. And I still think the gap in scores is odd.
