    "Need-blind" often results in a high list price paid by rich kids, a low price paid by poor kids, and few upper middle class kids attending because their parents don't want to pay what the school thinks they can afford. So money still influences who attends. In our experience, Catholic schools do a good job of keeping the list price low for everyone, while also offering some need-based aid.

    That's my hope, but I'd like to come to the table with some concrete plans and commitments from a gifted expert to be part of the board first.

    Sure, but it all depends on your price discrimination model. As you rightly point out with your Catholic schools example, a middle ground can exist. Most schools are still run with a quasi-for-profit motive; they just have high administrative expenses as an offset to high tuition fees.
