Is this an older test? I've read about kids testing higher on an older test than a more recently normed test.

I think it's at the end of it's shelf life. If I remember correctly they are currently norming the WISC V. Like you, I've read that kids tend to test higher on an older test and that scores may take a dip at the beginning of a new test.

Thanks, GinaW. From what I can gather the difference may not be much percentage wise and that for older kids it may be more difficult to test higher even on an older test. If ds's Explore scores didn't offer similar information as his WISC IV scores, I might have wondered about possible Flynn effect.

It's the most current test, so scores should absolutely be considered reliable (unlike say WISC3 or the SBLM) but yes it is aging and soon to be replaced.

Absolutely. I should have said NEAR the end of it's shelf life. It's still current and I'd certainly believe scores from it to be valid still.
