Just wanted to recommend some puzzles we bought today for my son by Beleduc, a German manufacturer of wooden puzzles. We saw a puzzle by this manufacturer at the museum last week and I was inspired to get one for home.
I've been having a heck of a time trying to find puzzles that interest my DS17mo. Puzzles marketed to the under 3 crowd are too basic to interest him, but he doesn't yet have the fine motor control (or, patience with his fine motor control) for most interlocking puzzles yet.
Solution: Beleduc. We found a 5-layer anatomy puzzle that breaks down circulatory, digestive, skeletal, and muscular systems, as well as a 15-piece interlocking piece peg puzzle map of the world. He loves it! He saw it in the store and shouted out, "Map puzzle!!!"
I highly recommend these two puzzles for the asynchronous under-2 set. They're a little pricey at $20-25 each, but I foresee them getting some decent mileage going forward.
